Sometimes things just line up.
Last night in London, I came face-to-face with Oleksandr Usyk for the first time. Different worlds, same place. And you can feel it straight away, this isn’t just another fight. On May 23, we step into the ring in Egypt, right in front of the pyramids. A setting like that says enough. This is one of those moments that doesn’t come around often.
Why this fight makes sense
I’ve been at the top of kickboxing for a long time. Over a decade. Fought the best, beat the best. At some point, it’s not about collecting more belts anymore.
It’s about challenge.
Staying at the top that long doesn’t make you comfortable. It makes you hungry. And for me, that hunger has always been about finding the next level. Usyk is exactly that. He’s undisputed in boxing. I was undisputed in kickboxing. That’s what this is about. The best facing the best. A different kind of test. I’ve done MMA. I’ve boxed before. But this is different. This is stepping into his world, at the highest level possible.
And that’s exactly why I’m here. I said it at the press conference and I meant it…. I’m not done. I’m looking for something new, something real.
Usyk is one of the greatest fighters of this generation. I respect that. But I also know what I bring. Size, pressure, power, and a mindset that’s been built over years at the top. I’m a problem he hasn’t solved yet.
